Dialup is a popular method of connecting to the Internet using a modem to dial your Internet provider through a telephone phone.
General dialup questions
Internet Terminology
What is dialup?
Dialup allows you to connect to the Internet by dialling in to Netspace over a standard telephone line using a regular modem.
Even with today's proliferation of broadband options, many people still find dialup an easy and convenient way to access the Internet – especially as most new computers are now provided with a built-in modem.
At a speed of 56k, dialup is slower than broadband but Netspace customers can take advantage of Netspace Accelerator to increase the speed of their dialup connection by up to 5 times.
To connect to Netspace Dialup, simply choose from one of our great residential or business dialup plans.

What phone number should I use to connect?
Most Australian capitals have their own dialup access number. Customers outside capital cities should use the National Data Number.

It's important to ensure the number you are dialling is a local call, otherwise you may end up paying national or STD call rates.
What sort of modem do I need?
You can use any ACA approved dialup modem to connect.
Most newer computers are now provided with a built-in dialup modem, but if you are going to purchase a dial up modem for your computer, we recommend buying an external modem as they are often more reliable.
What is the V92 protocol? Can I use it?
V92 is a protocol which allows for the taking of calls while connected to the Internet.
Unfortunately, V92 is not widely available in Australia and it is unlikely that you can use it.
If you have a V92 modem, you can still use it to connect to Netspace using the standard V90 protocol.
Can I speed up my dialup connection?
Yes. Netspace customers can take advantage of Netspace Accelerator, a dial up enhancement capable of speeding up your connection by 5 times or more.
But if you need serious speed, why not consider making the switch to ADSL broadband – it's now almost as cheap as dial up.

What dialup plan is best for me?
The best dialup plan you can choose will depend on how often you expect to use the net, how much content you expect to download, and how much you are willing to pay.
We offer casual, no fixed download, and permanent connections, as well as pre-paid, pay-as-you-go and annual payment options.
You can find the details of all our plans on the Netspace residential dial up or business dial up pages. If you have trouble choosing, you can get help by contacting our sales team.
Can I change my plan?
Yes – we don't believe in chaining you to a particular plan.
At any time you can upgrade to any dialup plan of the same or greater value as your current plan.
You can downgrade your plan to one of lesser value if you have completed your current plan's minimum term of agreement.
To change plans, use the MyNetspace portal online, or contact our customer service team.
How do I cancel my dialup account?

Are there penalties for cancelling my dialup account?
If your minimum agreement term is up, there are no penalties when cancelling your account.
However, if you are still within your minimum agreement term you may incur a cancellation cost. To find out what this cost might be, view your plan's terms and conditions or contact the Netspace customer service team.
Refunds are not available for unused portions of time you may have available when you cancel.
How do I renew my dialup account?
If you have chosen to pay your dialup account monthly or quarterly, then your account will be automatically renewed.
If you have chosen to pay annually, Netspace will send you a renewal notice prior to your account's expiration. This can then by paid via regular post or online through the MyNetspace online account tools.
